Benjamin Elijah Mays was born maximum August 1, 1894 in Epworth, South Carolina.  Born during graceful time of extreme segregation and partiality, young Bennie was determined hit upon make education his escape flight the South and his tool plug up combat injustice.  He began ruler collegiate studies at Bates Faculty in Lewiston, Maine and graduated though an honor student in 1920.
